Hi, I'm so glad you're here
About Suen's Kitchen
A little corner of the internet for the food our family loves and the stories that come with it.
My story
I've loved being in the kitchen since I was young. My mom taught me her tomato egg, sponge cake, and banana muffins — that's where the foundation came from.
Now I'm a mom of two little ones. Life gets busy, but it doesn't stop me from baking and cooking. I cook by taste more than by recipe — and yes, I've had my share of failures along with the successes.
I'm most at home with sponge cake, cookies, cheesecake, and good Western-to-Asian home-cooked meals. I've explored trickier things too — French macarons, tiered wedding cakes, Peking duck, siu yuk, even homemade noodles. Not mastered, but tasted, tested, and learned from.
[PLACEHOLDER: Your husband's recipes — the dishes he brings to the table, the ones that have become part of your family's rotation.]
[PLACEHOLDER: Your kids in the kitchen — how they help, what they love to make, the happy mess of cooking together.]
This is my recipe keepsake — every dish tested, tweaked, and loved in one place. I'm still chasing my signature dish, but I'd rather collect great ones than settle.
The fun stuff
Get to know me
- Couldn't live without
- A fresh Chinese bakery swiss roll — the moist kind. I can finish one in two or three sittings, easy.
- Weekend sport
- Soccer. Whenever I can get on the field.
- Family tradition
- Flying kites together. The more friends and family, the better.
- Guilty pleasure
- Freestyle dancing at home — my husband's words, not mine. I really only do it behind closed doors.
- Sweet or savory
- Sweet — pastries and fresh bread. I'll always pick them over something savory.
- On eating out
- Eating out is the rare exception. I'm super frugal — whatever's home-cooked is usually the answer.
- Best kind of trip
- Missionary trips and family trips. Being together is the whole point.
- Green thumb
- Trying. Even when the raccoons, mites, or one stubborn vegetable test my patience, it's still the most exciting part of the garden.
